What Is It?
Our Liquid Microbe Hobby Farm Mix is a biological pasture application designed to rapidly restore the essential soil biology in virtually any soil so that it becomes the healthiest, most productive, profitable and self-sustaining it’s ever been while also kick-starting productivity with a combination of potent natural fertilisers.
We offer this mix in 20L drums with freight across Australia (quoted at check out based on shipping address).
With the guidance of world-renowned soil biologist Dr Mary Cole from Agpath (www.agpath.com.au) we’ve developed this biological application to be suitable small scale for pastures and crops all across Australia.
We created this Hobby Farm Mix to be the most complete and fastest way to start cultivating the essential biology your soil requires for healthier, more productive and self-sustaining pastures.
By deciding to farm biologically with our Liquid Microbe Agriculture Mix, farmers are able to quickly replace the need for any and all synthetic fertilisers and chemical forms of pest, disease and weed control that continually degrades the quality of their soil.
Benefits
✔ Establishes and boosts natural soil microbe ecosystem resulting in healthier and more productive soil and pasture.

Ingredients
Microstart Microbial Mix of Beneficial Soil Biology
We produce our own organic, liquid microbe concentrate that contains billions of beneficial soil bacteria and fungi.
By adding our liquid microbes to your soil, you are actively building your soil microbe ecosystem and building the natural soil food web - allowing your plants to derive all the nutrients it needs naturally!
Certified Organic Liquid Kelp
Containing over 29 beneficial minerals and trace elements - liquid kelp not only helps to feed and grow your soil biology, but it also feeds your pasture without harming the soil biology in any way.
Kelp allows you to achieve that productivity “kick” without resorting to harmful chemical fertilisers that result in long term damage to the soil.
Certified Organic Fish Hydrosylate
Naturally high in phosphorus as well as a wide range of major nutrients and trace elements in plant available form, fish hydrolysate is beneficial directly to plants as well as being especially useful for feeding soil fungi - which then helps to build solid soil structure and integrity.
Certified Organic Plant Stimulants
Organic, sustainably made liquid biostimulate that contains naturally occurring organic acids to enhance and support microbial activity.
Certified Organic Phosphorus
Natural bioavailable Phosphorus to stimulate growth.
Simple Sugars
We add in some simple sugars to further stimulate beneficial bacterial activity and growth.

How To Use
USE INSTRUCTIONS:
If using a boom or jet spray, strain product when mixing to remove solids before spraying.
Keep spray pressure below 30 psi to avoid harming microbes in mix.
To make 200L of mixed product, mix 20L of Liquid Microbe Hobby Farm Mix with 180L of water (ratio of 1:9 microbes:water).
Apply mixed solution at approx 125L/Ha (50L/Ac ).
200L mixed solution will cover up to 1.6 Ha (4 Ac).
**Please note the mixing ratios differ between our 1,000L mix and 20L mix.
This is because the 20L drum is more concentrated than the 1,000L IBC to maximize coverage in smaller containers and reduce shipping costs.
Also, higher concentration leads to more sediment settling at the bottom. In smaller drums, this sediment can easily be mixed back in by shaking or tipping, but with the larger 1,000L volume, this becomes much more difficult. Hence, the difference in ratios.

What Other Farmers Are Saying:
“Applied on Pasture for grazing, hay and silage production. Noted good pasture growth, changes in capeweed growth habits, being more upright and less choking. Less incidence of insect damage due to higher brix levels.
Healthier colour in pasture with good rebound on rotational grazing. Soil appears softer and coming back to life.
Traditionally SSP and seasonal booster blends (on ever increasing rates), seen no loss in yield nor production, with increased density of plants and increasingly more clover and desired species with weeds going in opposite direction.
Loving not having to "nuke" everything in site as the system is improving, working and gaining with each application building up to where we need to be for the healthier sustainable soil we are looking to achieve.
Would totally recommend Microstart, I have done trials and happy with the results, especially the move away from chemicals and traditional fertilisers.
I have made recommendations to farmers, to do a trial themselves, talk to Darren and see what they think. Very excited to where the future takes us if we have such good results only two years in.
Really appreciate Darren's knowledge and time to explain and answer any questions that arise. A wealth of knowledge would be an understatement. Easy to talk to, and very thorough with the whole package, from product to paddock. Thankyou.
Photo below was hay crop last year at Glencoe. Nothing but Microstart. Got a bit out of control due to wet conditions and was cut about a month later than anticipated.”

“We applied to our pastures as a foliar fertiliser. We have only been using Microstart for 18 months but have already noticed the difference in the pasture colour it is now a lot darker green and it has suppressed a lot of the weeds eg. fleabane, thistle and purple top.
Because the pasture is thicker and the soil is improving in nutrients it has slowed the weeds from taking hold.
We have applied it once to all of our paddocks and we are in the process of giving everything a second hit.
Before we applied microstart we could not get the probe into the ground at all due to compaction, over grazing and spraying synthetic fertilisers. We can now get the probe in around 18 inches deep.
When we test the paddock with a shovel we now can see a difference between the top layer of soil and the colour below it and we have worms starting to reappear.
We would recommend Microstart to other farmers because it is making great changes to our soil and cattle production.
We also enjoy the fact that we use no synthetic chemicals or fertilisers anymore, this also keeps the cost of outputs down.
Darren is a wealth of information and is wonderful to deal with and learn from and would highly recommend speaking with him if you have any questions, he has helped us through the whole process of changing the way we graze our property.
We have been extremely happy with the service and advice we have been given through Kuchel family. They have been very helpful and quick to reply to any questions we have asked and now consider them as friends.”

“For quite a few years we have been trying to use more natural fertiliser products and pest management strategies but something has always been missing. After a farm visit with Darren last spring we tested the soil biology and fungi populations were low.
We treated our 2 lucerne pivots with Liquid Microbe Ag Mix in the spring 2022 and again in autumn 2023. We were able to maintain the production on the lucerne throughout the summer at a much reduced cost to applying synthetic fertiliser at last year’s prices.
This winter we have noticed worm populations have really started to increase in this sandy soil which has had a history of chemical and fertiliser growing potatoes and onions.
The lucerne pivots was able to run the same stocking rate as the previous year and lambs never caught up to the grass when compared with the previous years with 15% less water applied.
This coupled with the increase in biological activity ( increased worm numbers) was enough to convince me to apply 400ha of micro start microbe mix with snail and grub mix applied to our dry land pasture this autumn. We have seen cockchafer numbers significantly reduced this season.
Yes, I would recommend Microstart. The early results I have seen are very promising and Darren is alway available on the phone to answer questions.”

“I applied Microstart's Liquid Microbe Agriculture Mix to my least productive wheat (scepter) paddock in May 2022 which has very sandy soil and experienced flooding and waterlogging throughout the season.
Come harvest time in the following January the Microstart-treated paddock matched my most productive paddock (that didn't experience flooding and waterlogging) in terms of tonnes to the hectare (which historically yielded 1 ton/HA less) and crop protein percentage (9.8% protein).”
I applied Microstart's Snail, Slug & Grub Mix in April 2022; finding a single snail in the treated area was difficult by early July.
When we harvested in the following January we couldn't find a single one, while untreated crops were still heavily impacted.”

"Every year I was stuck in a cycle of putting on super and then spraying for weeds, and year after year I was using more super to get the same result, while even more weeds grew back that I would have to spray. Eventually I had enough and decided to start farming biological with Darren and Microstart. This year I’ve cut hay in paddocks that were treated biologically that I’ve never been able to cut hay in before."

Frequently Asked Questions
Will it take a long time to see the results of the Biological Application compared to Conventional Methods (synthetic applications)?
No. While it can take a number of months to restore the balance of your soil biology (heavily depleted soils do take some time), you will still experience an initial “kick” to match that of synthetic applications.
This is because our biological application also contains natural stimulants and fertilizers that will quickly give your pasture a quick short term boost, without harming the soil biology.
Essentially, you won’t have to sacrifice productivity during the time it takes for your soil biology to be restored. We naturally deliver the nutrients your plant needs now, while also cultivating the essential soil biology that is required for long term health, productivity and sustainability.
What is the shelf life of the Microbe Mix?
If kept in a cool location the microbe mix can last several months unharmed. You can tell if the mix has gone bad by smelling it, if it smells noticeably off or foul - it has probably gone bad.
We’re constantly working on improving the mix to increase shelf life, and we’ve had mixes that got lost in transit to be found months later, still smelling fresh and ready for use. So the mix is fairly resilient when kept out of direct sunlight.
Should I continue to use artificial fertilisers and pest control alongside your biological application?
We generally don’t recommend it as it is almost always directly harmful to the soil biology that we are trying to restore and cultivate.
However, if you feel the need to use some form of chemical application or initiate a transition period, we recommend doing so before our biological application has been applied so that it’s not directly impacting the new biology being added to the soil (by doing it after our application you will harm the new biology that was placed in the soil).
For the best results we recommend to aim to cut out all forms of artificial inputs on pasture that has been treated with our biological application.
If I use your biological application does this mean I will never get any weeds again?
Not exactly. While you may still notice some weeds appear on your pasture as your soil biology improves, they will become decreasingly problematic.
This is because:
1. The likelihood of prolific breakouts is greatly reduced due to healthier soil (they are present but not dominant).
2. With healthy soil biology, most weeds that do grow become nutritionally valuable to your stock as sugar levels increase with healthy soil biology.
While you may notice some weeds after we restore your soil biology to good health, they will not become dominant and have very little negative impact on the health and productivity of your pasture.
Is this approach to farming sustainable?
Yes. In fact, the longer you farm biologically, the more secure and sustainable your pasture becomes.
This is because when cared for properly, soil biology increases over time and requires less interference and maintenance from you as the farmer.
Once the soil biology has taken hold and become balances and healthy (typically after 2-4 years of biological application) – we suggest to decrease biological inputs to either a bi-annual or tri-annual basis if costs are an issue.
As long as the biology isn’t harmed in any way from chemical applications or over-grazing, the pasture will sustain and increase its profitability over time.
Biological farming is for the farmer who wants their pasture to become stronger, more productive and require less maintenance over time.
Why are the mixing ratios different for the 1,000L and 20L containers?
The 20L drum is more concentrated than the 1,000L IBC to maximize coverage in smaller containers and reduce shipping costs. Higher concentration leads to more sediment settling at the bottom.
In smaller drums, this sediment can easily be mixed back in by shaking or tipping, but with the larger 1,000L volume, this becomes much more difficult. Hence, the difference in ratios.
